On the 2nd of September 2022, the world's largest, enterable floating art installation will be unveiled in Hardanger Fjord, Norway. As part of Eide Fjordburk's Watermoon technology division, the goal for Salmon Eye is to better the seafood industry. The structure is 14,55 meters tall on 4 levels (above and below water); 1000,6 square meters; weighing 1256 tonnes; floating with a depth of at least 250 meters and able to withstand 4-meter-high waves.
A livestream of the event will begin at 12:15 (CET) HERE with the unveiling beginning at 13:00. At 14:30, a roundtouble conference will start after a minor break in the stream. Topics discussed will be on how to feed the world from the oceans and preserve our planet at the same time. The times are subject to change, however, depending on weather conditions.
In the day of the unveiling, brothers Sondre and Erlend will be sharing the results from the pilot plant test of new innovations in close containment aquaculture. This should leave no negative impact on the marine environment and better treatment for the marine animals, revolutionising aquaculture. It will enable the ability to farm fish in closed containments below the surface anywhere in the world. Already, results have shown optimised fish welfare , optimised fish growth and eliminating the lice issue for fish.
Entirely funded by the Eide family, the idea for the non-profit was conceived and initiated by CEO Sondre Eide. The vision for the Salmon Eye is to be a symbol for sustainable seafood and to be to the global food production platform what Tesla is to the mobility industry. It will be independent and autonomously governed by an advisory board consisting of representatives from environmental movement, government authorities, independant researchers and experts.
Following the unveiling, a conference will be held the same day with various speakers, some of which being the Norwegian Minister of Fishers and Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Climate, Bjørnar Skjæran and Sigrid Hagerup Melhus. Other speakers include marine farming Research Specialist Scott Lindell and one of the principal architects of the Paris Agreement and co-founder of Global Optimism, Tom Rivett-Carnac.
During the conference, more information is planned to be revealed regarding Watermoon's associated large-scale pilot plant for floating closed farming technology. They will also clarify the footprint of aquaculture and showcase innovative solutions for sustainable marine production to better feed the planet.
Eide Fjordbuk is a three generational company and a world leader in sustainable seafood production.
