Latest companies to invest in Hyperthermics technology

Favatn Private Equity and Måsøval Eiendom have invested in biotechnology company Hyperthermics AS, a move that was regarded by the company as a "good match."

Hyperthermics' technology works by using hyperthermophilic bacteria to degrade biomass for the purpose of biogas and protein production. The bacteria's high working temperature speeds up decomposition and in doing so, increases the capacity of the production facilities. The main markets in mind are biogas producers and fish farmers.

"Both Farvatn and Måsøval are involved in aquaculture and fish farming," explains Erlend Haugsbø, CEO of Hyperthermics AS. "The aquaculture industry is investing heavily in becoming greener, and our solutions contribute, among other things, to transforming fish sludge into a valuable resource."

Many shareholders in the company are involved in biogas or fish farming, meaning they are interested in successfully commercialising Hyperthermics' technology.

Favatn and Måsøval currently hold 11 percent of shares in Hyperthermics, a move that is 'a mark of quality.' Both shareholders are helping to strengthen the commercialisation of the technology.

Hyperthermics was recently chosen by fish farmer Hofseth Aqua to manage sludge at a land-based plant in Tafjord and can be read about, HERE.

Alltech releases Planet of Planet report on company's commitment to sustainability

Alltech Coppens have released their 2022 Planet of Plenty Sustainable Report, which provides an overview of the company's commitment to sustainability. Generally speaking, the report serves to demonstrate the company's "journey" towards responsible management of the world's resources and food for all, it explained in a press release.

The report highlights how the company is researching, developing and commercialising better alternatives, working with partners globally to improve sustainable developments in aquaculture.

"We at Alltech Coppens continue to work on sustainability on many fronts, from reducing our own emissions and helping our clients reduce theirs to increasing transparency and providing more efficient feeds, which are increasingly adapted to specific systems and environments," explains Ronald Faber, CEO and global aqua lead at Alltech.

"This second Planet of Plenty report gives more insights into the progress of our sustainability journey. We implemented a scoring system for our feeds based on various raw material environmental impact criteria, and we are continuously improving our sustainability knowledge through research and system-specific nutrition," he adds.

Alltech Coppens strives to positively impact the market in which it operates – incorporating sustainability into its business strategy. This includes future ambitions, such as zero waste emissions throughout the life cycle of fish feed by 2030 and zero CO2 emissions throughout the product life cycle. The latter mentioned will be achieved through energy saving and utilising renewable energy, striving to become a carbon-free society by 2050.

In order to protect the planet and continue to supply food for the global population, the message 'Planet of Plenty' commits to nine of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This includes prioritising life below water, climate action, and quality education.

Gael Force's efforts towards recycling rope

Gael Force Group have begun partnering with Ocean Plastic Pots, a company that strives to turn waste from its moorings production into recyclable garden products.

Ocean Plastic pots turns raw material from excess tail-end rope offcuts into distinctive plant pots that can be used both indoors and outdoors. The pots are designed in Glasgow and are manufactured in Scotland, as the brainchild of former commercial diver Ally Mitchell.

Gael Force's Warehouse Supervisor Dougie Grant came up with the idea to team up with Ocean Plastic Pots, submitting the proposal through the employee idea forum 'Force for Good.'

Along with the moorings production team, Dougie had been considering ways in which surplus materials from production jobs could be utilised, to avoid traditional methods of waste disposal. He identified an opportunity for recycling rope offcuts after viewing Ocean Plastic Pots on television.

Recently, Ocean Plastic Pots has just produced its first batch of 'Burton' pots made from the yellow coloured SeaQureLine. The way in which each pot is manufactured means it comes out differently, but all bear a solid yellow flat matte colour.

"Leftover material from our production is inevitable, just like it is in construction, engineering, or other manufacturing," says Marc Wilson, Marketing Manager from Gael Force Group. "In partnership with Ocean Plastic Pots and through the determination of our team to help minimise the impact our operations have on the environment, we have found a way in which we can help create a circular economy."

Gael Force Group is exploring its own initiatives to extend recycling activities from production involving rope and netting efforts. The Burton Yellow Pot from Ocean Plastic Pots is available to purchase from their website, HERE.
