06/05/14: Future with Aquaculture Students

Aquaculture is the fastest growing primary production sector in the world and presents a great career opportunity for well-trained and motivated young people. The World Aquaculture Adelaide (WAA14) conference recognises the value of students, be they linked to industry, research or government and has a raft of activities and awards to engage and excite them at this important event.
The Student Spotlight Award recognises the best short oral presentation based on the abstract submitted. Students will be selected to present to the plenary audience based on their abstracts. Conference delegates attending the session will then have the opportunity to vote for the winner. The presentations are evaluated on scientific and industry value, scope, clarity and conciseness, and the winner will be well rewarded and acknowledged at the Presidents Reception.
Additionally there are poster and oral presentation awards for World Aquaculture Society student members, which are judged during the event based on strict criteria which includes the discussion and handling of questions following presentations. All delegates are encouraged to speak to the poster students about their research during the event.

Elsevier, world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services are sponsoring a Student Writing Workshop that will be run on 11 June 2014.  Gay Marsden, the workshop coordinator, expects participating students to find the workshop a highly rewarded experience and will learn much from the presenters who will pass on years of skills and knowledge at the session.

There will also be a number of informal networking opportunities for the students including Student Trivia Night and a special Student Zone within the Trade Show. The zone will feature some work stations to allow students to stay “connected” to the internet and is positioned close to the WAS Employment Service booth where they may just find their dream job!
World Aquaculture Adelaide 2014 is an opportunity for the international aquaculture community to present their research/work, exchange ideas and discuss a vision for the future of the aquaculture industry as they focus on the theme of ‘Create, Nurture, Grow’, reflecting the dynamic nature of aquaculture development in the region.
