Speaker's profile: John Bostock

John Bostock is Manager of the institute of Aquaculture's consultancy and project management arm "Stirling Aquaculture" and Director of the MSc Aquaculture and nation projects and contributes to MSc level teaching.
John started his career in freshwater biology and fisheries before studying marine biology and zoology and then aquaculture and fishery management. He worked on fish farm project in Tanzania before joining the institute of aquaculture to support training projects in Bangladesh. Since then he has worked on over 120 consultancy projects in UK, Europe, Middle Ease, Africa, Asia, North America and the Caribbean for government agencies, non-government organisation, financial institutions, large and small private companies. He teaching spans aquaculture system design, economics, marketing, financial appraisal and business management. He has a particular interest in recycle systems, and the application of ICT within aquaculture.
"Future aquaculture system will need to develop to address the challenges of environmental impacts, natural resource limits and the threat of existing and emerging diseases and become even more efficient. Intelligent automation will play a significant role in this combined with advances in our understanding of animal biology and environmental interactions. Hopefully the product will at least be just as tasty!"
