Revolutionary breakthrough in industrial tapware for feeding

by Henri Herledan, CEO and Business Developer

Startup Westair was present at the CFIA Food Industry Suppliers’ Exhibition in the ‘Food Factory of the Future’ section in March 2019, having been selected by development agency Bretagne Développement Innovation; the company will also be present at Seafood Expo Global in Brussels for the second time this coming May.

Two years on from its creation, Westair has completed the first installation of its Multizone® automatic feeding system at the Monchel fish farm in Hauts de France, as well as presenting its innovations at the CFIA exhibition in the FoodTech village. Our Multiways® valve, currently in the industrialisation phase, will soon be available for industrial and food companies, together with Cleanpipe®, already available with  Multizone®.

The distinctive feature of our fish feeding process is that it can be adjusted to each user. As well as delivering a real technical step change, replicating the natural feeding procedure, it’s also been designed to be user-friendly and accessible: anyone can adapt it to suit their own production practices.

The Multiways® valve marks a genuine breakthrough in tapware. It’s a fully stainless steel, hygiene quality multi-way valve, with very low head loss, that doesn’t damage pellets during transfer. Based on innovative, patented technology, it opens up the way for new industrial processes and improves existing ones by decreasing the amount of pipework needed.

The valve is suitable for the transfer of all types of product (pellets, powders, all fluids), and offers infinite, forward-compatible potential for transfer combinations. It’s very easy to clean, too, allowing for a wide range of applications in food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and other ‘clean’ industries.

The Multiways® valve is the cornerstone of our automated feeding process and as such is proving to be highly successful, performing just as advertised: delivering improved production, reduced feed loss, and more uniform distribution, resulting in a large number of orders being placed in recent months.

Rohart and Jorgensen in Hauts de France and Bellet near Angoulême are among the fish farms that have already chosen our system, and we’ve had many other expressions of interest since attending the World Aquaculture Society’s AQUA tradeshow in Montpellier in August 2018.
