The American Fisheries Society has released a report into improving fisheries management in the Arctic-Yukon-Kuskokwim region. Fisheries management in this region is extremely challenging due to the
mixed stock origin of most fisheries, remoteness, complexity, and vast
size of the major river drainages, U.S./Canada Treaty agreements for the
Yukon River, and the interdependence of subsistence and commercial
fisheries. The proposed projects would provide necessary research and
support management activities within the region.
The House of Representatives Agricultural and Natural Resources Committee in the USA has approved a bill to address the concerns of shellfish producers. The bill addresses to key areas of concern in the industry including the need for new research in the light of rapid changes in shellfish farming
practices and the environmental impact of shellfish farming.
