Aquaculture features in the new hit Star Wars series: The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian is a recently released series from the Star Wars universe that follows the journey of a Mandalorian bounty hunter. The show has received impressive reviews with 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, and an 8.7/10 rating from IMDb.

Episode 4 of the series, 'Sanctuary', takes place on a sparsely populated planet called 'Sorgan', the entire episode is based on the protagonist bounty hunter helping the village of aquaculture farmers fend off a party of bandits that are raiding them for their aquaculture harvest.

While no great emphasis was given to aquaculture in the episode, the opening scene set the villagers in-land pond aquaculture set up as a peaceful and beautiful way of life. The villagers, working alongside their droids, were harvesting florescent blue prawns from their ponds - in the background some sort of fish sorting device appears to feature too.

It was great to see the concept of aquaculture being presented to the general public in such a positive light. According to online reports, for the week of November 17-23, 2019, the hit series based in the Star Wars universe garnered 100.3 million 'demand expressions', making it America's most in-demand digital exclusive series at the time.

May the 4th be with you!
