Dr Mian N Riaz will be speaking at the One Day Short Course in Aqua Feed in Abu Dhabi.
Dr Riaz will be giving an 'Introduction to extrusion technology.' Here's a brief run-down of what he will be talking about:
"For any extruder manufacturer to achieve growth on a continuous basis they have to add value to existing equipment. It is critical to develop and innovate new equipment and also modernise existing systems.
"An extruder will last for more than 20 years if maintained properly. Therefore, most extrusion companies are continually looking for new methods to improve energy utilisation to reduce the footprint and improve the safety and quality of the food and soy products.
"Recently, we have seen several new developments in preconditioners. There have also been developments in extruder shaft design (single shaft, twin shaft, two parallel tapered shafts). New developments in die can deliver multicoloured and multi-shaped soy products.
"Extrusion cooking is defined as a unique tool to introduce thermal and mechanical energy to food ingredients, forcing the basic components of the ingredients, such as starch and protein, to undergo chemical and physical changes. Extrusion combines several unit operations including mixing, cooking, kneading, shearing, shaping and forming - so it is a highly versatile unit operation that can be applied to a variety of food processes."
The One Day Short Course in Aqua Feed takes place on Sunday February 14, 2016 from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM GST at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
