National Fish Day in Cambodia saw the release of 1 million fish to celebrate the launch of the country's national aquaculture institute.
The Research and Aquaculture National Institute is a government-funded
organisation that sets its goal at producing up to 20 million fish per
year.
“We hope this National Institute will succeed in producing
fish births to meet people’s needs and maintain fish from extinction,”
Chan Sarun, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, said at the
ceremony.

The inland water project, the first in the state in the Pookode Lake in Wayanad district, was launched by the
Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI), Bangalore, in
association with the State Fisheries Department and aimed to draw attention to the potential of cage culture.
The seven-month project saw around 200 fingerlings grow to an average size of 500 g.
Fisheries experts, researchers and officials at a seminar in Bangladesh predicted that about 57 percent of the total fish production
would come from aquaculture by the year 2014-15.
