Pier Antonio Salvador is confirmed as the Offshore Mariculture Conference 2014 welcome address speaker for the 5th Offshore Mariculture Conference.
Originating from a family of farmers with a long standing in the field of fish farming in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region and a second generation fish farmer, he is the proprietor of the fish farming facility of the same name operating in the sector of trout culture. Since June 2000 he has been the President of API (the Italian Fish Farmers Association) and has held many posts from Minister’s Advisor for Agricultural Food and Forestry Policies in the aquaculture sector to representing the Italian Fish Farmers Association in the Federation of European Aquaculture Producers (Feap) in the role of Chairman of the “Health Committee”.
The 5th Offshore Aquaculture Conference will be held in Naples, Italy on 9-11 April 2014 and will be supported by The Italian Fish Farmer Association (API), the European Aquaculture Society, the Federation of European Aquaculture Producers, the Global Aquaculture Alliance as well as the European Technology and Innovation Platform, the “Bundesverband Aquakultur” (German Aquaculture Association) and L’Armatore.
Delegates from over 20 countries, from as far as Australia to Canada and from Germany to Singapore, will be in attendance and include fish farmers, suppliers, industry organisations, researchers and manufacturers. They will come together to explore the progress and prospects for offshore aquaculture in both European and international waters and will benefit from a comprehensive insight in to how offshore fish farms are operating today.
The conference will be chaired by Alessandro Lovatelli, Aquaculture Officer, Food Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the programme includes the following sessions:
A highlight of the conference programme is the “Challenges, Risks and Opportunities of Investing in Environmentally Sustainable Offshore Aquaculture” to be presented by chief executive officer, Robert Orr of Cuna del Mar Private Equity fund. Mr Orr will engage with delegates on why his company has chosen to invest in the unpredictable yet big reward industry. Delegates will hear about the company’s current investment projects in aquaculture, opportunities to create a new way of thinking in the market place as well as learning how technology will lead the way.

The first day will culminate with a networking conference dinner at the Historia Massa Restaurant, Caserta, where delegates will have the opportunity to continue their discussions from the conference and socialise with industry peers.
Following the two days of technical conference, delegates will have the opportunity to participate in a visit to the Piscicoltura del Golfo di Gaeta (P2G) offshore fish farm, where they will experience the farms 72 floating cages, including 10 cages of 28m diameter, 34 cages of 22m diameter and 28 cages of 16m diameter.
Conference dinner and fish farm visit are included in the delegate fee and organisers would urge delegates intending to participate, who have not already registered, to do so as soon as possible as places at the event are limited.
