The International Labour
Organization (ILO) is working together with the Royal Thai Government (RTG) to
address labour conditions in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors in Thailand.
As part of these
efforts a Multi-stakeholder forum is being organized on 22nd and 23rd of May
2014 in Bangkok at Impact Arena Mayangthong Thani, Bangkok during the THAIFEX
World of Food Asia industry fair.
The forum will be
an opportunity for various global and local stakeholders in the Thai shrimp and
seafood processing and supply chain to discuss problems and opportunities
related to labour rights and working conditions with special focus on child
labour, forced labour and trafficking.
The discussions will
cover policies and practices related to fundamental labour rights and labour
migration and working conditions in all subsectors of the supply chain
including aquaculture, processing and wild catch/vessels. The meeting is
organized jointly by ILO-IPEC and RTG through its Department of Labour
Protection and Welfare of the Ministry of Labour and Department of Fisheries of
the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
