The 10th International Seaweed Conference begins tomorrow, showcasing new advances in the seaweed industry

Taking place as an online event on September 15 and 16, the Seagriculture conference offers expert knowledge from over 25 speakers, who will share technical findings and trends in the seaweed area, including seaweed for feed and food as well as offshore cultivation. Live discussions and social networking events are part of the conference, which also honours the winners of the newly launched Seagriculture innovation award, a project funded by the European Union.

The Seagriculture program consists of eight sessions that present specialist topics within the seaweed industry ranging from investing in sustainable, large scale seaweed cultivation to seaweed's ecosystem services and seaweed activities in the US and in the Americas.

In addition to the topics offered as live sessions over two days, the conference also offers the opportunity to network with colleagues from all over Europe and beyond within industry and research.

'The 2021 conference program is packed with in-depth sessions. The winners of the new Seagriculture innovation award scheme will be announced live at the online event. Also new this year is a seaweed tour around the world and a special night session 'USA night' that has valuable input from our colleagues across the pond. To keep people on their toes in front of their screens, we have put together a seaweed quiz for additional online entertainment,' says Kuno Jacobs, Managing Director, DLG Benelux.

The innovation awards launched this year are funded by the EU. A jury consisting of international seaweed experts from academia and industry will select three nominees with the most innovative product, service or invention to receive a gold, silver or bronze award. In addition, an audience distinction award is conferred on one innovation. Companies, research institutes and organisations involved in seaweed innovations have entered a range of award candidates for the Seagriculture Innovation Award 2021. The winners will be announced during the Seagriculture 2021 Innovation Awards ceremony on day two of the conference on 16 September.

The Seagriculture conference is organised by DLG Benelux, a subsidiary of DLG (German Agricultural Society) together with specialist partners. Participants can still register to take part in the Seagriculture Conference.
