Simon J Davies to speak at the upcoming Aquatic Asia conference

Aquatic Asia is a one-day conference program featuring a variety of industry experts delivering brilliant presentations about the latest updates in both fish and shrimp nutrition. The event is set to take place September 6th, 2022, in Amber 3 Room at IMPACT, Bangkok. The conference will run from 10:00am to 16:00pm, with keynote speakers still to be confirmed.

Another recently announced speaker for the event is Professor Simon John Davies, discussing "Fuelling the next generation of aquafeeds for a sustainable future for tilapia production – Evaluation of a novel distillers' dried grain protein-energy by-product for tilapia feeds"

A Life Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, Fellow of the Institution of Aquaculture Singapore, Life member of the World Aquaculture Society, and Member of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, Freeman of the City of London.

Professor Simon J Davies has a BSc degree in Biochemistry, University of Wales, 1978, Masters MSc in Animal Nutrition from Newcastle University, 1979 and a PhD from the Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling, Scotland in 1984. He spent two years at the University of Idaho, USA undertaking his Post doctoral Fellowship in fish nutrition1984-86. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of International Aquafeed/Fish Farming Technology trade magazine since 2009 at Perendale Publishing (14 years). 

Professor Davies has over 36 years' experience in academia and extensive teaching and research attainment. His aquaculture specialisation is in fish nutrition and feed technology that has enabled over 36 full time PhD student completions and supervision of generations of undergraduate and masters students in aquaculture and related biosciences. Professor Davies has examined the PhD theses of over 40 students in aquaculture. He has developed and led masters' programmes in Marine Biology and Aquaculture at the University of Plymouth and Harper Adams University, UK for over 36 years, having served seven years at Harper Adams University. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the National University of Ireland, Galway and Emeritus Professor at Harper Adams University. He is an Honorary Professor at the University of Nottingham and visiting Professor at Bristol University Veterinary School. He has authored over 200 scientific papers, book chapters and commercial reports and was recently appointed a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology and a Fellow of the Institution of Aquaculture, Singapore and a Freeman of the City of London (2021). He has advised many government agencies and grant awarding bodies, and acted as a consultant to numerous commercial companies in biotechnology and the feed industry. He has been the recipient of over £5M in research and educational grants from overseas governments, agencies and the commercial sector for work on fish nutrition and applied fish feed technology over the last 36 years. 

Professor Davies has made extensive visits overseas in each continent speaking at prestigious international events and scientific meetings.
