13/12/13: Major supermarket called to end fisheries contract; new fisheries college in Ghana; Marel's Innova system breaks 1000 mark

The Salmon and Trout Association, UK has called on major British supermarket chain Asda to take a stand for wild salmon conservation by ending its relationship with Wester Ross Fisheries Limited.

Wester Ross Fisheries Limited was featured in Asda’s magazine in July this year following a scandalous sea-lice record. 

“The sea-lice numbers in the region where Wester Ross Fisheries have all their marine farms are shocking and the salmon farmers in these areas have lost all control," said Hugh Campbell Adamson, chairman of the Salmon and Trout Association.

The African government, through the Ministry of Fisheries and Aqua Culture, MOFAC has announced plans to establish a fisheries college in Anomabo, Ghana.

According to the sector minister for fisheries and aquaculture, the new college will offer major stakeholders in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors the chance to sharpen their skills and knowledge.

Global food processing leader Marel recently announced it has sold over one thousand Innova systems. 

According to the company, the Innova system - which was launched in 2008 - is now being installed every day of the year.

  1. The parasite look like lernea in fresh-water fish. They use their hook-liked to hook to fish muscle and absorb nutrition.
