Otto Schmid of the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL in Frick, Switzerland was visiting Aqua 2012 in Prague to explore uses for a new protein source he is investigating.
Protein from insects grown on food wastes could become an important supplement in fish feeds, he told International Aquafeed magazine.
He said the project was completing its first year of feasibly studies and had the support of local government in Basel, Switzerland, who were supplying food wastes for the project. Otto can be contacted at: otto.schmit@fibl.org for more details on his progress towards a novel protein source.
