12/09/2017: SPACE 2017 show update #1, France

The following information is provided by SPACE to keep attendees and the industry up to date on show events

SPACE is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary this year with 1441 exhibitors including 499 foreign stands.

“This year there is a net increase in exhibitor willingness to participate at SPACE with an increased demand for floorspace and we want to thank all the participants,” says Anne-Marie Quéméner, SPACE Chief Commissioner.

You will find a new digital system to make life easier as each exhibitor can print their own badge directly and gain access to the show by scanning their bar code at the entrance. Improvements have also been made to the extranet linked to the website allowing a personalised space and improved organisation.

Greater International Audience

To bring the Show up to date and further assist our international visitors, we have reviewed the graphic design and the names of our top programmes. The new logos of innov'space and the renaming of the R&D platform to "eSpace for the Future" and of #SpaceTV are distinctly modern. “Enjoy your visit everyone.”

Connected space
A free mobile app is available to visitors and exhibitors for iPhone and Android. Share news, pictures and SPACE events in real time on Facebook and @SPACERennes hashtag #SPACE2017 on Twitter. An improved wifi service has also been put in place in the halls for exhibitors. Access codes for the four days of the Show are available at Point Service.

Breeder to breeder
A series of lunch debates organised in partnership with FRGeda, Trame and SPACE on the themes of animal well-being through natural, material and genetic cooperation will allow you to have your say. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 12pm to 2pm Petit chapiteau porte C.

Space an international standing
With an expected 12,000 visitors from 120 countries, SPACE is proving to be a growing international force. The event of the year for livestock professionals is becoming increasingly international with 499 foreign exhibitors including 89 new companies coming specifically to Rennes from 41 countries in 5 continents to meet visitors and keep abreast of agricultural innovations.

SPACE is the only livestock world event this year and many companies are counting on the Show to achieve their commercial objectives and find new international markets. To assist them, the Show organisers provide as many invitations as they require with open access to the International Club, a meeting and business centre exclusively reserved for international visitors where they can meet export aid agencies, use translation services, etc.

Long-Haul Delegates
Many exhibitors register early, as well as delegations. “Africa has been a priority area for our promotion campaigns for many years. Confronted with an increasing demography (by 2050 a quarter of the world's population will be African), agriculture is at the centre of political decisions,” says Anne-Marie Quéméner, SPACE Chief Commissioner.

Constantly looking for solutions to agricultural self-sufficiency, delegations will be hosted from Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Benin, Senegal, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Congo. SPACE will also see delegations from Iran, Canada, Ukraine and India as well as many European countries confronting different challenges of investment, exports and innovation.

Tribute book
To celebrate 30 years of SPACE, the organisers have rummaged through drawers and archives to unearth the best pictures to illustrate a history of SPACE. “For this 2017 edition we've edited a retrospective with eyewitness accounts of the pioneers still able to tell their stories. We also wanted to pay tribute to those who dreamt it, those who created it and those who will continue the adventure for the years to come,” said Anne-Marie Quémé- ner, Chief Commissioner of SPACE.

Charolaise in the ring

The Ring at 2pm today sees the beginning of the national Charolaise breed festival with 80 of the finest specimens from across France. This number one animal raised in France is easygoing, easy to feed, easy to calve and has a great growing potential.

Three questions to marcel denieul, Space President:

What do you expect from Stéphane Travers' (Agriculture Minister) visit today?
M.D. I'm hoping the minister will make his visit to this important Show a time to meet with stockraisers and the whole industry. This should allow him to get a global view of farmers' difficulties as well as the vitality of the whole industry.

Half way through the Consultative Assembly on Nutrition, who do you think the minister should meet first?
M.D. I think he should meet everybody as he does in Paris, but I hope he will spend some time with the people who produce. That would show a certain respect and recognition for the work and difficulties of farmers. He would also get feedback on the impact of his political decisions.

Do you have a message for the minister?
M.D. While stockraisers are constantly evolving their practices and adapting to the demands of society, it is necessary to tackle their increasing fatigue. I hope he hears their message. This fatigue could in the medium term endanger the industry and the vitality of the countryside.

Space TV
#SpaceTV has a new logo and programme line-up. As well as video reports on the competitions, breeders and agricultural services, the web tv journalists in association with the Ouest-France newspaper will hold interviews on the issues around meat consumption.
