A new Washington shellfish initiative was launched on December 9, an agreement between federal and state agencies along with tribes restoration communities and the shellfish industry to restore and expand the shellfish resources to promote shellfish aquaculture.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), has announced a US$200,000 (€150,506) grant along with the state departments of Health and Ecology also will award US$1 million (€752,530) to support programs. “Few people realise how important the shellfish industry is to Washington state, and the potential for job growth,” Governor Gregoire said. “This industry already brings in tens of millions of dollars to our state every year".
