09/07/12: New Zealand salmon; illegal fishing in Tanzania; lobster in Norway

The news from over the weekend:

  • Disease ruled out as cause of death at New Zealand salmon farm.  Smolt will be introduced to New Zealand King Salmon's Waihinau farm in Pelorus Sound after tests showed there were no infectious salmon pathogens on the farm.  Read more...
  • Illegal fishermen vacate waters in Tanzania.  Tanzanian police and community policing have strengthened their patrol in the Coast of the Indian Ocean.  During 2011/12, surveillance was strengthened in the country's deep sea area and not a single foreign vessel was seen fishing in the country's territorial waters.  Read more...
  • The Directorate of Fisheries in Norway is proposing to prohibit the sale of wild-caught lobster which have not been labelled. The proposal has now been sent out with a deadline set for 22 August 2012.  Read more...
