Peruvian Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Juan Carlos Requejo, indicated that over US$22 million will be invested to establish the Lima Aquaculture CITE, which will be linked to five technical units based in Puno, Piura, Ica, Ancash and San Martin.
Within the National Plan for Productive Diversification, the government hopes to relaunch the Peruvian aquaculture sector, since it can help increase the country's economic growth.
The sector has huge potential in Peru. Currently, less than five percent of fishing output comes from aquaculture activities, whereas in other nations it accounts for nearly 50 percent.
