Honduran tilapia strengthens in the U.S.

Honduras has received US$50 million in foreign exchange from the sale of 16.5 million pounds of fresh tilapia fillets to the United States during 2010. As a result, it has become the main exporter of this fish to the U.S. market.

Orlando Delgado, general manager of the company Aquafinca Saint Peter Fish, which is dedicated to this activity, ensured that both production and exports of tilapia resulted in approximately 1,500 direct and 6,000 indirect jobs. "2010 was a satisfactory year despite the difficult situation that has hit our main target, which is the United States," said the businessman.
