The state of Ceará has today become one of the five largest fish producers in Brazil, thanks to the significant development achieved in marine and inland aquaculture.
Ceará in 2009 produced a total of 88,694 tonnes of fish, representing 7.1 percent of the total Brazilian production (1.24 million tonnes), said the director of the Registration Department for Fisheries and Aquaculture, of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MPA), Sebastião Saldanha Neto.
Noting that "the potential of Brazil is in aquaculture," the official said that this state has the potential to further expand aquaculture production as encouraged by cultivation in tank-networks. Read more ...
