- 14 companies – acting as the Global Salmon Initiative (GSI), and representing over half of the global farmed salmon industry – publically disclose their environmental, social and economic impact for the first time ever
- Antibiotic use, wildlife interactions, escapes, and occupational health and safety among areas measured as part of the report
- Report is backed by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), and other food sectors are being urged to follow the GSI model of working cooperatively to ensure accelerated sustainability improvement to meet increasing demand
- Global salmon consumption has trebled since 1980, and salmon aquaculture is the fastest growing food production system in the world
