In an attempt to mitigate the negative effects on the environment of farmed salmon, particularly in relation to escapes, Marine Harvest has signed a deal with AgriMarine Holdings, to test new equipment to grow 1kg salmon smolts. "Our purpose is to test and benchmark equipment that can support semi-contained postsmolt production of fish up to 1kg," says Cato Lyngøy, Group Technical Manager, Technology & Environment.
"For years, Marine Harvest Norway has worked with traditional solutions for the production of smolts on land up to 300 grams. The time has come to look at opportunities for completely or partially closed systems for salmon up to 1 kg," he says. Read more ...
