At the Institute of Aquaculture, Stirling, Scotland, they have carried out research to tackle common issues and problems relating to sexual reproduction of finfish the research that included sexual maturation impacts on health and welfare and the impact of escaping fish interbreeding with wild stocks. Sexual maturation can have adverse impacts on the health, welfare and productivity of farmed stocks due to associated changes in physiology and behaviour.
