The 4th Congress of the ISAP will showcase Algae innovation

Experts come together at the 4th Congress of the International Society for Applied Phycology (ISAP) to share the latest innovations and discoveries in the algae industry in Nova Scotia. Researchers, marketers, manufacturers and entrepreneurs from 30 countries and 114 companies came together to present the latest developments with in this billion dollar industry.

The uses for algae is wide open from medical to biodiesel to food supplements, cosmetics, horticulture. In Japan they have found that eating seaweed may slowdown the onset of AIDS symptoms. Spirulina algae strains containing plant-based insulin, which could be commercialised to treat diabetes. These are just a few of the possibilities that Algae research and development may help. The congress was also supported by and co-hosted by the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). And will be held in  Canada’s algae research capital, Halifax, from 19-24 June. Read more ...
