Mainstream responds to criticism

In his most recent letter regarding aquaculture activities in Clayoquot Sound Mr. Wright could, once again, not be more wrong. Without be-labouring the reader with responses to all his opinions, I wanted to focus on the broader, sweeping statements made based on presumptions of both ethical and environmental wrongdoing by companies such as my own, Mainstream Canada.

Recently we became the first company in Canada to be certified through the Aboriginal Principles for Sustainable Aquaculture (APSA) framework. Being a third-party certification, it ensures our partners in operation, the Ahousaht First Nation's values and interests are represented and sustainably managed.

This First Nations-driven initiative was created by the Aboriginal Aquaculture Association (AAA) and is based on the elements of:
  • transparency and First Nations inclusiveness 
  • social responsibility 
  • environmental responsibility 
  • economic responsibility
