Aquaculture problems in Hawaii

Aquaculture is the tool of man to provide aquatic species as a food source, due to the decimation of aquatic species in our seas. Aquaculture in Hawaii was once seen as the model and was considered to be the silicon valley of aquaculture, this was due to its offshore lease laws, wealth of fishing and the marine science experts, and 200,000 square miles exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

However the golden goose is suffering and things are not going so well in Hawaii, Open ocean aquaculture (OOA) operations has declared bankruptcy and another is seeking US$ 5 million in financing. Also there are problems and concerns like chemicals and steroids used on the fish pollute calm waters and are snarfed up by wild species in the area. Read more...
