New Zealand aquaculture diploma course pulls in full quota of students

The global boom in aquaculture is having a marked effect on the increasing number of universities and institutes producing diploma courses in aquaculture. A new aquaculture and fish farming course at the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology in New Zealand is proving so popular the inaugural Diploma of Aquaculture (Fish Farming and Management) that 16 of the 20 places on the course have already been filled, and the remaining four places look as though they will be filled soon as more interviews take place.

Head of the Institutes Primary Industries and Maritime Studies Jeff Wilson says "No-one else is teaching fish farming and management to this level in New Zealand, and that's what the applicants are saying attracted them to the diploma." The diploma course has been designed by leading international aquaculture educationalist and consultant Mark Burdass, who has accepted the job of running the programme.
