Land based fish farming will remain a niche part of the industry

In Canada fish farming (aquaculture) has established itself as a profitable industry, generating CAN$1 billion (€715 million) in revenue a year and producing about 154,000 tons of fish of which three-quarters are salmon. Even though as an industry it is very profitable, there are debates about the environmental impact of aquaculture on the marine environment as well as ecological issues.
