At Auckland's University of Technology, Undaria pinnatifida is being touted as the next big thing in aquaculture. Undaria has been classified as one of the top 100 global invasive species. Due to its invasive nature up until 2010 there was restrictions that precluded Undaria from being farmed or harvested. Now AUT in partnership with Wakatu Corporation is researching the commercial and neutraceutical applications of Undaria.
