In the states of Johore, Selangor and Penang Grouper farmers have joined forces to create a new association called the Marine Fish-Farmers Association of Malaysia (MFFAM). This is an important development as the three states account for 80 percent of the fish farmed in the country. “It is hoped that through the MFFAM, members can be influenced to adopt best practices in order to meet market demand sustainably,” says Gangaram Pursumal, Manager of the Peninsular Malaysia Seas Program at WWF-Malaysia.
