Aberdeen University seeks lecturer in aquaculture

 
The School of Biological Sciences, located within the College of Life Sciences and Medicine, is seeking a Lecturer in Aquaculture. This post will be closely associated with the teaching and research undertaken within the School and the Institute of Biological and Environmental Science (IBES) in particular the program of Integrative Environmental Physiology. We are seeking research strengths that complement our existing areas of expertise, which aims to improve the sustainability of aquaculture through disease control, nutrio- and immunogenomics and control of fish biology/ development in relation to aquaculture. An interest in utilising the current advances in ‘omic technologies to improve fish production would be desirable.

The School has proven research and teaching strengths in aquatic and marine sciences, and has excellent facilities including a recently refurbished UK£1million (US$1.591 million) freshwater and seawater aquarium, a zebrafish breeding facility, fish cell culture facilities, and analytical and molecular genetics laboratories. In addition, it has excellent manned field stations for marine research, including Oceanlab, a new purpose-built research centre on the North Sea Coast at Newburgh 15 miles north of Aberdeen, and the lighthouse field station at Cromarty. The School of Biological Sciences has excellent links with industrial partners, end-users and stakeholders across the aquaculture sector. The University is a key member of the Marine Alliance for Science and Technology Scotland (MASTS).

Applicants will have a PhD in a biological science with extensive research and teaching experience, an excellent track record in published research and external grant income. Experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level including research student supervision is required.

Criteria:

- PhD in a biological science
- Expertise in core area of fish Aquaculture
- Evidence of published work in internationally excellent peer-reviewed journals
- Evidence of ability to obtain external funding or potential to do so
- Experience of teaching at an undergraduate and or postgraduate level
- Evidence of experience of teaching administration and curriculum development
- Evidence of excellent written and verbal Communication skills
- Salary will be at the appropriate point of the Grade 7 Lecturer salary scale (£37,012 - £44,166 per annum), with placement according to qualifications and experience.
