The province of Binh Thuan in Vietnam, has placed a ban on harvesting of shellfish out of season. The fisherman have been reminded that they are not allowed to harvest the shellfish before August. This temporary ban was first issued in 2010 in an attempt to conserve shellfish numbers, according to Le Tien Phuong, chairman of the provincial People's Committee.
The size of shellfish that can be harvest is set at 55mm to 60mm Mr Phuong said he also said that those who break the law will be find with fine costing as much as VND30 million (US1,430), and the confiscation of their fishing permits for six months. Read more ...
