Criteria
for legal compliance, food safety, animal and worker welfare and
environmental and ecological care are all part of the AquacultureStandard set by GlobalG.A.P.
Four
years of research and consultation are represented in Version 4 along
with feedback from 500 stakeholders.
Throughout
the process the FAO Technical Guidelines on Aquaculture Certification
were used as a reference. The result is a version that provides a
more compact and comprehensible standard for users, with new criteria
resulting in a stricter level of compliance.
Feed
manufactuers have responded to consumer demands as well and
certification has been developed and updated to address their needs.
GLOBALG.A.P. launched the 'Compound Feed Manufacturing Standard' late
last year, with a new section covering the responsible use of raw
materials covering fishmeal and fish oil. Through the new updated
version, the CFM Standard supports the feed industry in assigning
priority to the responsible and sustainable sourcing of this
important raw material.
